Integrative Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture
Results (Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Nutrition, and Daily Exercise Training) are cumulative—each treatment builds on the progress of the last. For lasting results, especially for chronic conditions, consistency is vital.
Individuality of Care & Lifestyle Factors
Every patient is unique, and healing rates vary based on individual factors, including:
Nature and Duration of Condition: Your medical history is the foundation of our work. Generally, the longer a condition has been present, the more treatments are needed to create a "momentum of healing."
Lifestyle & Environment: Your long-term dietary habits, work-related stress, sleep quality, and exercise routine all significantly impact how quickly your body responds.
Treatment Tolerance: Your ability to follow recommended clinical protocols (including needle retention time, herbal dosage, and nutritional guidelines) will directly influence the speed and success of your results.
Non-Linear Progress (The "Healing Path"): Healing is rarely a straight line. Progress often includes periods of rapid improvement followed by "plateaus" or temporary fluctuations in symptoms as your nervous system re-regulates. These fluctuations are normal and do not mean the treatment isn't working.
Acupuncture Treatment Protocols
Acute Conditions: For sudden issues like a cold, flu, or recent injury, we usually recommend 2 sessions per week for the first 2 weeks. After symptoms resolve, we may transition to a weekly and then a monthly maintenance schedule.
Chronic Conditions: For long-standing concerns—including neurological, autoimmune, metabolic (such as Migraines, Insomnia, Spinal/Sciatic Nerve Pain, IBS, Paralysis, Hypertension, Dermatitis, or Psoriasis), and Women’s Health or Reproductive issues (such as PCOS, Fibroids, Infertility, or Cystic Acne)—we typically start with 2 sessions per week for the first 6–8 weeks.
The Transition Path: As your symptoms show sustained improvement, we will gradually transition your frequency from twice weekly to weekly sessions. Once stabilized, we move to bi-weekly, and eventually to a monthly maintenance schedule. Because everyone’s healing rate is different, this timeline will be adjusted according to your specific response.
The "3-Week Pivot" (Managing Expectations): It is very common for chronic patients to experience rapid progress for the first 3–4 weeks, followed by a temporary "dip" or plateau where symptoms may briefly resurface. Do not be discouraged. This is a normal part of the body’s recalibration process. Consistency during these dips is what leads to long-term, stable recovery.
Customized Treatment Plan: A formal estimate of treatments will be provided after your first visit, and a structured roadmap is provided by your second or third session once Dr. So evaluates your initial physical response and lab results.
Ongoing Reassessment: We evaluate your progress every 4–6 weeks and adjust your plan as your body’s needs change.
Cupping Therapy (Clinical Note): At So Acupuncture, cupping is strictly offered as a synergistic modality within our Spinal Rejuvenation Acupuncture sessions and is not a standalone service. Please note:
Clinical Necessity: Cupping is not appropriate for everyone; it may be contraindicated based on your specific health condition or physical state.
Time Management: Because cupping is an additional modality, it requires sufficient time. If a session begins late or if the consultation portion of your appointment is extended, we may prioritize the Electro-Acupuncture portion of the Spinal Rejuvenation protocol to ensure clinical efficacy, and cupping may be omitted.
Chinese Herbal Medicine & Nutrition Protocols
Herbal medicine and TCM nutrition are tools to reset and rebalance your system so your organs and internal systems function in harmony (maintaining Yin and Yang balance). For the most effective treatment outcomes, it is highly recommended to combine acupuncture with herbal medicine and nutrition.
Course of Treatment: Acute cases (like a cold or sudden injury) may resolve in 2–7 days. Chronic internal conditions typically require a minimum of 3–6 months of consistent herbal therapy to see structural change in physiology.
The "Internal Shift" (Managing Expectations): Progress with herbal medicine is often non-linear. You may feel a significant shift in your first 2 weeks, followed by a period where progress feels subtle or "plateaus." This is a sign that the formula is working on deeper, structural levels of your physiology. Consistency is key; stopping the herbs during a plateau prevents the body from completing its internal reset.
Clinical Herbal Assessments ($100): For herbal-only patients, a formal Assessment (60 mins) is required every 8–12 weeks, or upon completion of your 4th bottle. This in-office visit includes a full review of organ systems, vitals, and physical reassessment.
Acupuncture Patients: If you are receiving regular acupuncture, your herbal protocol is managed during your private sessions; a separate Herbal Assessment fee is not required.
Refill Procedure: Standard 15–20 min refill check-ins between Assessments are provided at no consultation cost. To coordinate, email contact@soacupuncture.com when 3–4 days of herbs remain. Dr. So will then email you the required General Check-In Form, Dermatology Intake Form, Neurology Intake Form or Women's Health Intake Form, which must be submitted with photos and progress notes prior to your refill visit.
Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatments
Standard protocol is two treatments per week for 5–6 weeks. Maintenance is recommended every 4–6 weeks. Because digestion and lifestyle directly affect the skin, hair, and nails, TCM Nutrition consults are highly recommended for lasting results.
Our shared goal is to create a clinical partnership that delivers the best improvement for your specific concerns while supporting your long-term vitality and well-being. We look forward to supporting you on your healing journey.
